From Post-Disaster Reconstruction to Sustainable Action
NCKU's Commitment to ESG and Social Responsibility
Due to the increased frequency of extreme weather events, disasters have become long-term challenges to sustainability. When Typhoon Danas hit central and southern Taiwan on July 5, 2025, NCKU responded by taking the following actions under its ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework: assessing risks, aiding recovery, and implementing practical solutions toward resilience.
NCKU's Social Responsibility
In the aftermath of the disaster, NCKU prioritized social responsibility by mobilizing faculty and students to repair damaged roofs and coordinate with architects and engineers to reduce losses to residents. To fulfil our governance responsibility, the university enhanced project transparency, optimized resource use, and improved cost efficiency. Regarding our environmental responsibility, NCKU has integrated sustainability thinking into its reconstruction efforts by applying scientific assessments to minimize waste and ensure long-term safety.
NCKU believes that “post-disaster recovery should not be seen as a one-time repair effort but rather as a commitment to ongoing environmental governance.” This initiative is real-world evidence of the university’s ESG values of social inclusion and public good, which entails addressing both immediate needs and long-term resilience. By aligning disaster response with sustainable resource management, NCKU continues to advance its ESG mission and promote a future built on empathy and shared hope.
