Why lung cancer screening matters — detailed image description

The infographic explains how the stage at diagnosis strongly affects lung cancer survival and presents national LDCT screening results.

Infographic about early lung cancer detection, screening totals, and five-year survival

Lung cancer and early detection

  • Lung cancer has the highest cancer mortality worldwide. Outcomes are closely related to the stage at diagnosis.
  • Taiwan Health Promotion Administration data show a nearly 90% five-year survival rate for stage I lung cancer, compared with about 10% for stage IV.
  • When lung cancer is found before symptoms appear, most cases can be treated successfully.

National screening results

By December 31, 2024, 158,937 people had been screened nationwide and 1,957 lung cancer cases were diagnosed. Stage 0 and stage I accounted for 1,621 cases, or 83%, showing how LDCT supports early detection.
