Rooted in Education, Nurturing a Sustainable Generation

National Cheng Kung University is committed to building a sustainable, low-carbon campus. Since launching its Carbon Neutrality Action Plan in 2018, NCKU has been the first in Taiwan to set sustainability policies and a carbon reduction roadmap. By integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into university planning, NCKU demonstrates sustainability leadership and social responsibility. In line with Taiwan’s 2050 Net-Zero Policy, the University focuses on five key areas, including innovative governance and net-zero emissions, aligning national priorities with research strengths to advance talent cultivation, technological innovation, and industrial transformation—actively leading higher education toward a sustainable future.

Low-Carbon Campus

Since 2021, NCKU has installed electric vehicle and scooter charging stations for faculty, staff, students, and local residents, encouraging green transportation and carbon reduction. Beginning in 2022, the University has gradually introduced green official vehicles, which now account for 35% of its fleet, serving patrol, emergency response, and campus safety tasks. To promote cycling, NCKU provides 9,463 parking spots and repair stations, enhancing convenience and safety. In partnership with the Tainan City Government, YouBike stations have also been set up, offering shared mobility for the campus community and visitors, reducing emissions, and advancing environmental responsibility.
