Main information

  • LDCT is the only internationally validated screening tool for detecting lung cancer early and can reduce lung cancer mortality by 20% in heavy smokers.
  • The scan requires no contrast injection, takes about two to five minutes, and can find lung nodules smaller than one centimeter. Radiation exposure is about one-seventh to one-fifth of a standard CT scan.
  • A chest X-ray is an initial screen for lung problems; LDCT is used for early lung cancer screening. LDCT can detect cancer early but does not reduce its incidence.
