National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) welcomed a senior delegation from Belgium’s Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre (imec) on September 2 to explore interdisciplinary research, industry partnerships, and talent development.
NCKU President Meng-Ru Shen highlighted the importance of connecting medicine, semiconductors, engineering, and AI to address global challenges. Imec’s Executive Vice President and co-Chief Strategy Officer, Dr. Jo De Boeck, praised NCKU’s interdisciplinary strengths.
Discussions focused on smart healthcare, AI, genomics, and quantum technologies, with both sides exploring links between imec and NCKU’s industry research platforms.
Building on a decade of internships and research exchanges involving dozens of NCKU students, the institutions plan to expand joint projects and develop a framework for graduate research and internships. The partnership aims to strengthen Taiwan-Europe research ties and nurture technology talent with interdisciplinary expertise and a global perspective.
